What Type Of Dog Clippers Should I Buy?

I want to start to groom my shihzus at home to save money. they are not show dogs. How do I cut their nails without cutting too much? Also do I need to empty anal glands? How do I do this?

I’d do a google on cutting dog nails, and ask around for more advice. That’s what I did. I learned to see the pink part, and diagrams helped. I only cut the curved part of the nail. I don’t cut a lot off, but I cut every other week to make up for it. I’m not confident enough to remove chunks yet. I think it will take time and practice.
You don’t have to express your dog’s anal glands. If your dog smells horribly or scootches it’s rear on the ground, then it may have impacted glands. Otherwise, it doesn’t have to be done

Do not buy the guillitine style clippers. Get the ones that cut side to side, and trim your dogs nails that way, as there’s less pressure for the pooch.

I would just take them to a groomer. By asking on yahoo answeres you have no idea what your doing and you don’t want to hurt your dog do you?

use a nail guard and you wont cut into the nail bed. Don’t know about the anal glands.
