If You Show Dogs, Where Did You Learn To Groom Your Dog Properly For Showing?

I had several mentors in my breeds show me at various times. I learned some from each mentor. Grooming is one of those skills that grows with time – and you can easily get overwhelmed trying to learn it all. Some of these mentors I PAID to learn from.
In my primary breed the first and most important lesson is: Get the dog dry all the way to the skin. The second lesson: Learn how to effectively line comb.
There are a bunch of tricks that can be used to make the dog look its very best that I learned over the course of years of showing.
Now that I’ve been doing it for years – I try to assist those who are novices and could use some assistance.

My Mentor, she was a great lady, it was Lola Wise, she has shown Schnauzers forever, she taught me everything, showing, grooming, breeding…Then she turned Judge in 1995,still in the loop of things, she is now 72 years old, and going strong. She no longer breeds, but her Schnauzers are so well known, my first came from her.
She had a way about grooming, they looked like a portrait when she finished with them…
She was a mentor to so many young people…

I learned not only from watching a pro groomer of Sealyhams (Margie Good) and by trial and error. Althought I’m not perfect yet.
