Dog Nutrition, What Do You Think?
I have 3 dogs, two Pit Bulls and a Poodle mix. Both of my Pitties have very sensitive stomachs and picky taste when it comes to dry dog food. After trying food after food we found that Alpo, come and get it is a food that they all like and they don’t get sick from. However, I would like them to have more protein and variety in their diet. I have been cooking for them now for two weeks and they seem to really like it Also, I noticed that my dog’s fur is much softer and shinier. Just wanted to see what everyone thinks of this meal plan.
Each dog gets 4C dry dog food with a half cup mixture of what I have made. I made 6 hard boiled eggs, peeled and minced. 1 1/2 C dry oatmeal. and 1/2C plain yogurt. Mixed together this made 6 total servings for them. This comes out to 10g protein on top of the 4 cups dry food.
I intend on switching the recipe every week. Such as substituting chicken, turkey or ground beef for the eggs and brown rice for the oatmeal. What do you think about this and do you have any recommendations?

You are making life much more difficult than it needs to be!!
Instead of cooking and peeling eggs just crush a raw one into their other food (shell too) a few times a week.
Instead of cooking chicken and turkey mince buy a whole chicken and cut it in half or quarters (depending on the size of the bird) and feed them this.
The oatmeal provides no nutritional benefit so why not feed some beef heart instead. All the grains will do is increase the size of the poop!!
** I have been researching canine nutrition for YEARS which is why I am telling you that oatmeal provides absolutely no nutritional benefit for a DOG. You are asking about feeding your DOGS – they do not have the same digestive system or nutritional requirements as humans so why feed them as if they do!! Read the links provided and you’ll see what I mean.
Seeing as you seem to be interested in the composition of various foods, why not use this data base to do some research on what is in raw foods? It contains protein levels as well as various vitamins, minerals and peptides. http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/se…
I saw a show on top dog show champs, they showed one of the owners at home feeding the dogs, she gave them raw chicken w/bones raw eggs broken in bowl w/shell raw liver and other organs. The dog were literaly(almost) going insane when they saw her bringing the food, and ate everything. Her reasoning was it was a more natural diet(for dogs) to eat this type of food. they looked very healthy w/shiny coats.
My pitbull is on Blue Buffalo Fish and Sweet Potato formula. You can find this as PetSmart. She has sensitive skin as well. It gave her bad gas at first, and I almost switched to something else, but then it got much better, and she seems to like it a lot. It also has no corn, gluten, by-products, etc. which helps with her food allergies.
If this works for your dogs, it’s great.
You’ll get hung for feeding Alpo, so beware. The Dog Food Police will tell you that you are feeding your dogs crap, and tell you to feed more expensive stuff, like Innova, Wellness, and a few others.
As more people understand the importance of nutrition to their own health, they’re starting to consider what’s in their dog’s food bowl as well. Food manufacturers are only too happy to oblige, and the latest products are likely to be labeled natural or organic, and include ingredients said to promote health, such as blueberries and salmon oil. That said, it can still be a challenge to sort out high-quality chow from the canine equivalent of junk food.http://dogtime.com/food-nutrition.html
