This depends on coat type or breed. Which are you asking about?

MandieLuvsYou: Not so “duh” dear. There are exceptions and different methods for different breeds.

Ah! Just the info I was looking for!
I suggest line brushing for your dog. You lift the coat against the grain with
one hand, and literally seperate out a line 1/2 to 1 inch wide, and brush it
out with a slicker brush until all the loose undercoat and tangles are gone.
Do this line by line until the whole dog is brushed. Then take a comb
through to get any undercoat and tangles that were missed. If the mats are really bad, your only remedy might be to take her to a groomer to be shaved down so you can start fresh and prevent the mats. There are mat splitting combs available, but it sounds like you are trying to get her done tonight, and if you don’t have one on hand, you might not be able to get one tonight.

I have a 2 year old german shepherd. He’s suffering from the dog food poisoning bs. Not to long ago, the hair under his nose turned gray. I know that in humans it can mean bad nutrition but is it the same for dogs?

My family have been poorly raising our dog and spoiling him with tablefood. It has been a while since we last fed our dog with actul dog food. I know that his nutrition is getting bad and without proper nutrition his hair and skin gets bad as well. I was wondering if any foods out there that will help the skin and hair get better.

Doe anyone own a robocut hair cutting device to groom thier dog? They have a new robocut that is built into a vacuum.
I am really interested in one of these to groom my Shih Tzu but I would really like to know if it works as well as the advertisement says. I think the robocut has been around for about 30 years or so. Seems like it wouldn’t be around so long if it didn’t work, but I’d still like to hear it from someone who really owns one. They have one now that has the Vacuum all combined with the hair cutting device. This is the one that I am most interested in. Does Someone have one that they are happy with? Is the motor very loud etc. Thanks!

My dog is old, and his hair has overtaken his legs and actually hinder his movement. I took it for granted that he would pass away before his hair would get so bad, so I figured I’d spare him the trauma of grooming at his age. But he still has spark, but he’s miserable because he can’t move very well due to the amount of hair. I need to cut him down, but I can’t afford a professional groomer and I have no dog hair clippers. Scissors are wholly ineffective for the most troubled areas. Is there any way to loosen tight, matted hair so that I can cut it?
